JD McBride Construction in Oklahoma City installs solar panel systems that combine metal roofing with crystalline and thin-film solar technologies. The end-result is a functional and environmentally friendly roof system that generates renewable, clean, green energy.
Photovoltaics (PV) are products that convert sunlight into electricity. They are commonly referred to as solar cells. PVs are made of semiconductor materials such as silicon. Cells of PV material are put together to form a module, and modules can be grouped together on roofs to form arrays which generate power to the building. Crystalline systems consist of an array of silicon wafers sandwiched between two layers of glass. These panels can be heavy and must be attached to a roof using S-5! clamps or bracing.
Characteristics of Crystalline
- More popular
- Widely recognized as “conventional” solar panel
- Generates more energy per square foot
Thin-film PV systems are flexible, lightweight and adhere directly to the pan of a metal standing seam roof. In that case, the PV system is actually integrated into the building design and is almost unnoticeable on the roof. Metal roofing provides the best platform for the building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) system.
JD McBride Construction is a proud Oklahoma installer of Miasole Flex Series PV Module. The FLEX-02 Series module is a CIGS based flexible thin-film PV module that provides high power density for many types of roof applications. The panels are the highest efficiency, flexible, thin-film product on the market today, with >16% cell efficiency.
The FLEX-02N module is 14.6 inches x 102.3 inches and is rated at 120-watts, and designed specifically for standing-seam metal roofs. The FLEX-02N module bonds to the roof surface with a simple peel-and-stick adhesive. Visit Miasole’s website for more information at www.miasole.com/products
Characteristics of Thin Film
- Light weight
- Aesthetically pleasing
- Factory or job site installation
- Works well in cloudy conditions
